obesity hypertension

Obesity simply means excess fat in the body. Excess fat in the body has been shown to be a principal contributor to the development of several illnesses in the body including hypertension. Obesity can lead to hypertension through the following way;

Fat Storage Problems

Generally, when cholesterol, fat is absorbed into the body, it is first assembled together and later converted to a long chain called fatty acids. This whole process of conversion is called cholesterol Esterification and it is made possible through the action of an enzyme called Lecithin Cholesterol Acyltransferase. The important of this chain formation is to aid easy intake of the fat into the cells for energy production.

During this energy production, the long chain cholesterol is first broken down by an enzyme in the body called Lipase. However, in the presence of excess fat in the body as in the case of obesity, the ability of this important enzyme, lipase, to breakdown the fats is overwhelmed thereby leading to accumulation of excess fat in the cells, a disorder called Cholesterol Ester Storage Disease.

Accumulation of these excess fat leads to fat deposition on the blood vessels. The latter causes narrowing of the blood vessel; atherosclerosis and of course hypertension. Too much of fat in the body promotes quick development of the vascular narrowing and hypertension.

Some simple ways to get rid of excess weight so as to cushion the effects of hypertension include;

1. Exercise is unarguably one good way to get rid of overweight. Exercising on a daily basis not only reduce obesity, but helps wade off other diseases.

2. Taking up to 7 or 8 glasses of water daily

3. Consume more of unsaturated fats

4. Guide against the intake of calories

Hypertension has no known cure.
